Neonatal Nurse
Leaving school, Jane studied a Bachelor of Nursing at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane and commenced her career as a paediatric nurse. Following an interest in the care of babies, Jane moved to Melbourne to undertake her midwifery training in the form of a Post Graduate Diploma at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Jane quickly realised which side of midwifery she preferred and happily fell into neonates over 22 years ago. At this point, Jane achieved a further Post Graduate Diploma in Neonatal Intensive Care through La Trobe University, Melbourne. As supportive study, Jane also completed a Masters of Science in Genetic Counselling at Griffith University in Brisbane.
Neonatal nursing has taken Jane to tertiary centres across Australia and then led her to the United Kingdom, where she completed her Masters as an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at London Southbank University. Twelve years on, Jane still has the pleasure of working in such a privileged role caring for babies and their families.
After moving back to Australia and spending time working in Melbourne, Jane has now been living on the Sunshine Coast with her partner and their two girls for over 5 years. Jane worked in their local Level 5 Neonatal Unit and was thrilled to now be a part of our unique Baby and Child Health Service at Coast Life Families working in conjunction with Jessica Kumar, Child Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant.
Jane’s passion is centred around providing quality care with the baby and their family as the focus. She enjoys the challenges that arise from the ever changing advances in Neonatology and strive to practice using current evidence as her basis. Jane is excited by continual quality improvement and repeated evaluation of service provision. Jane finds the balance between working at the hospital and in the community at Coast Life Families refreshing and rewarding.
