Home Birth

Home Birth with midwives you know and trust - Sunshine Coast

At Coast Life Midwifery, we believe birth is a normal physiological process and that many healthy women with a low-risk pregnancy can safely choose to give birth at home.

For families seeking a calm, familiar and supportive environment, planned home birth can offer a deeply personal experience with continuity of care from known midwives throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

Research continues to show that, for healthy women with a low-risk pregnancy carrying one baby, a planned home birth with qualified midwives is a safe option and is associated with lower rates of unnecessary medical intervention.

HOME BIRTH – Continuity of Care From Your Midwives

When you choose a home birth with Coast Life Midwifery, you will be cared for by the same known midwives throughout your journey.

During labour, your midwives remain with you, providing clinical care, emotional support and ongoing assessment of the wellbeing of both you and your baby. We monitor labour progress, maternal observations and your baby’s heart rate while also protecting the calm and privacy of your birthing space.

Two Midwives at Every Birth. Your safety and your baby’s safety are always our highest priorities. For every planned home birth, two qualified midwives attend. Throughout your pregnancy you will have the opportunity to meet the second midwife who may attend your birth, ensuring familiar and trusted faces are present when labour begins.
Our midwives bring all necessary clinical and emergency equipment to your home and will work with you during pregnancy to ensure your birth space is prepared and suitable for a safe home birth.

The First Hours After Birth

After your baby is born, your midwives remain with you to support the important early hours of transition and recovery.

This precious “babymoon” time may include:
• Immediate and uninterrupted skin-to-skin contac
• Delayed cord clamping
• Support for the first breastfeed
• Ongoing assessment of both mother and baby
• Guidance with newborn feeding and settling
• Monitoring of maternal recovery and wellbeing

Our care continues after birth with postnatal visits and support during the early weeks of parenting.

Is Home Birth Right for You?

Home birth is generally suitable for women who:
• Have a healthy, low-risk pregnancy
• Are carrying one baby
• Are planning a spontaneous labour
• Are seeking continuity of care from known midwives

During your pregnancy, we will discuss your medical history, pregnancy progress and birth preferences in detail to help determine whether home birth remains the safest and most appropriate option for you and your baby.
